June Favourites // 2015

Seriously where did June go? I don't know about you but the fact that June is finished is pretty scary but I do have some monthly favourites to share. Because I'm currently on a summer break from University, I have had more time to experiment and wear make up and I have a few rediscovered products. My monthly favourites include eyeshadows, eyeliners, moisturisers and of course nail polishes as well as a tv show and an album which I can't stop listening to.

My first monthly favourite is a rediscovery of mine. I have been using the Simple Protecting Moisture Cream non stop this month. The main reason for this is because of the SPF 30 it contains as I have been going for hikes, runs and generally spending a lot of time outside. I find that I normally burn quickly when I'm exposed to the sun so I have been turning to this product almost everyday this month.

The first eye product that I have been wearing a lot this month is the Rimmel Glam Eye HD Quad Eyeshadow in 'Heart of Gold'. I haven't been the biggest fan of Rimmel eyeshadows in the past and I brought this quad a while back but never used it. However a couple of weeks ago I was in the mood to rock a gold eye look and have been addicted to the quad ever since. The eyeshadow blends so well and creates the perfect gold summer look.

Another rediscovered product also comes from Rimmel. I have really been enjoying brown pencil eye liner rather than a black liquid liner as it creates a more natural look and is also a lighter option compared to liquid liners. The Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal Eye Liner Pencil 'Oil Sable Brown' is my favourite pencil liner of the moment as it slides along my lash line and doesn't move until I use make up remover to remove it. At only £2.99, I can't recommend a cheaper pencil liner that is as good.

Onto the nail polishes that I have been loving this month. I'm sure this will come as no shock that I have been wearing Barry M Hi Shine Nail Polishes non stop. The two shades that I have been wearing the most is a light blue shade and a light mint green shade. The Barry M Hi Shine 'Sky Blue' is a light baby blue colour while the Barry M Hi Shine 'Sugar Apple' is a more mint green toned colour. I will agree that they are very similar shades and I definitely don't need to have both but I am nail polish obsessed.

In terms of tv shows, I can't stop watching The Whispers. It is scary but still makes me want to watch it every week. The Whispers is about aliens who use children to carry out their plans and plots. Sounds odd but seriously give it a try! The album that has been played non stop throughout June is Ella Henderson's Chapter One. I know I'm late to the party on this one but every song on the album is amazing and is one of my all time favourite albums.

Plan Your Perfect Summer | Ideas & Tips

Now that summer has well and truly kicked off, I'm sure that some of you are finishing school, college or university and are wondering what your going to do. I'm definitely one of these people. I know that someone of you may be working during your summer and props to you but everyone needs some time to relax and recharge and I have got some ideas of what you could do. I am a firm believer that the summer is designed for you to chill, relax and to have a good time with friends and family and here are some great ideas and tips.

Source - Link

The first thing that you can do is bake. This is one of my favourite things to do during the summer holidays. You could bake cakes, cupcakes, flapjacks, cookies, brownies or anything that you fancy. If you are not into sweet treats why not whip up some raw vegan brownies which taste amazing. Even if you aren't the worlds greatest baker, you can always buy a cake or brownie mix and make a summer treat. I personally love to make sweet potato fries which are so yummy and simple to make.

Source - Link

Why not go outside and hike. If I am feeling bored or want to clear my head, I head out for a hike. I find this very calming and refreshing. I love to plug in my headphones and just walk while listening to some funky tunes and rocking very cute workout gear. Hiking is just as fun if you invite your family and friends along too and is a great way to explore the surrounding area as well. I often go hiking with my family and always end up having a picnic with yummy sandwiches and fruit juices.

One of my all time favourite activities during the summer is a girls day out. At least once a week, me and my friends go out and find something fun to do together. My typical girly days out often include shopping trips, going to the movies and trying out new restaurants. There is nothing more I enjoy doing than chatting with my friends over a plate of delicious food or browsing the latest clothes in Primark. Of course no girls day out would be complete without taking hundreds of pictures.

If you live in a country where the sun shines bright, how about throwing a pool party or going to the beach. I love spending a day by the pool as it really relaxes me and is also a great way to be active as well. When I throw a pool party, I always remember to bring inflatables as well as fruit smoothies to drink. If you don't live near a pool, why not take a trip to your local beach and have a beach day. I love floating in the sea, building sand castles and eating ice creams.

Source - Link

My last idea is to have a lazy pamper day. Every once in a while, everyone deserves a pamper night. This involves face masks, hair masks, luxurious body lotions and nail polishes. I take great pleasure in sitting in my sweatpants while watching my favourite chick flick and eating popcorn. There is nothing better than a day to treat yourself and often I feel so much more positive and happy after a pamper session.

What are you planning to do this summer?

Five Beauty Tips I Always Follow

When I first started wearing make up, I didn't know what I was doing and it is safe to say that there were some serious make up crimes committed. However over time and with lots and lots of practice, I finally feel that I can create a make up look that looks half decent and with this comes a couple of tips which I never fail to forget. These are just my tips and tricks which I found though trial and error and I thought I would share them with you.

Invest In a Good Nail Polish Top Coat
I love wearing nail polishes but love it more when it is long lasting. For years and years, I went with out using a top coat and always wondered why my nail polish was chipping after only hours of wearing it. When I finally noticed that I needed to get a top coat, I tried so many different ones. Not all top coats actually help but one budget top coat I like is the Barry M Clear Top Coat. The Essie 'Good To Go' Top Coat is one of the best I have ever tried and makes the nail polish last longer.

Never Pair A Bold Lip With Smoky Eyeshadow
I really wish that someone had informed me of this tip when I first started wearing eyeshadow. I never thought about whether my lips and eyeshadow matched which meant that there were times when I paired a smoky eye with a orange lip. Never ever again. If I am going to go bold with the eyes than I normally go for a more neutral lip colour such as light pink. Make either the lips or eyes the centre of attention but never both.

Prime Your Lips Before Applying a Matte Lipstick
Lipsticks of a matte formula are very unforgiving if your lips are dry and cracked. The lipstick will stick to the dry bits of skin and look terrible. To avoid this, use a lip scrub to remove any dead cells before then applying your favourite smooth lip balm to moisture your lips. Priming your lips before hand ensures that your lips are smooth and soft and also makes the lipstick last longer without it flaking off or drying out your lips.

Take Your Time Blending In Your Foundation
One of the most important tips I have learnt. Take your time when it comes to blending in your foundation. The last thing you want is foundation that isn't fully blended in and just soaks into your pores. Blending ensures that the foundation doesn't become streaky which doesn't look good on anyone. Also remember to pick the correct shade so that it matches your skin and make sure that it suits your skin type.

Store Your Liquid Liner Upside Down
My last tip is about liquid liner. There is nothing worse than streaky liner because the liner doesn't come out consistently. To avoid this problem, try storing your liquid liner upside down. This ensures that the liquid comes out at a consistent rate. This will also make sure that you get a nice, solid black line every time and stops the liquid liner from drying out as quickly.

What are your top five beauty tips?

How To Become A Morning Person

Source - Link

I don't know about you but one of my favourite times of the day is the morning. I have always been a morning person ever since I can remember. However a lot of friends and family members are definitely not and often ask me how I became a morning person so I thought I would share my tips and ideas to get you up and enjoying your morning.

Source - Link

My first tip is to move your alarm clock out of your reach. Move it to the other side of the room where you can't turn it off unless you get up and out of bed. This idea may seem simple but it works wonders because by forcing you out of bed, you are more lightly to get up and get ready to face the day. If you use your phone as a alarm clock, try placing it in a draw or by a window so it forces you to physically get up and turn it off.

Source - Link

Don't forget to let the daylight in. Once you have dragged yourself out of bed and turned off your alarm clock, open up your curtains and let the light in. I find that daylight wakes me up and also brightens up my room. I know that you might find this hard and may even burn your eyes but after a couple of days, your love the feeling of the daylight shining on your face in the morning.

Source - Link

Hydrate yourself with a glass of water. After you have turned off the loud alarm clock and let the light in, grab your a glass of water and drink it. If you don't like drinking water, try adding a couple of slices of lemon. This not only tastes amazing but also cleanses the body while helping you to fight the hunger cravings. Drinking lemon water at the beginning of the day also helps to feel fresh and boost your energy.

Source - Link

One tip is to prepare the night before. If I know that I am going to be busy in the morning and have some where important to be, I pick out my make up and clothes the night before. I normally leave my make up out on the side so I don't have to spend ages picking out eyeshadows. I place my clothes out as well as packing my bag so I don't have to think about it and really speeds up the morning routine.

Source - Link

My last tip is to make the morning about you. This is one way to make you enjoy your morning more. If you give your a couple of minutes to yourself to do something that you love , you are more likely to enjoy your morning routine. I love to spend a few minutes sitting with my little brother just chatting about anything really as it is relaxing and is a great way to start the day.

What are your tips and tricks to becoming a morning person?

What I Eat In A Day

I thought I would try a different type of post today and its all about food. I decided to document all the food I ate in one day. I personally love to have a look at what other people eat as it provides great inspiration and ideas of meals that I could cook and hopefully this will do the same for you. I would like to state that I am definitely no role model when it comes to healthy eating and choosing the right types of foods to eat but I thought this would be a fun post to do. This is a typical daily food plan for me.

Breakfast:

A normal breakfast for me is Oatmeal. I add Unsweetened Almond Milk to Plain Porridge Oats and mix them together. If I want to make it sweeter, I often add Raw Honey without any added sugars. I top this off with sliced pieces of banana. Yummy! This breakfast doesn't just taste good but releases energy over a longer period of time. If I have extra time in the morning, I might make some boiled eggs but most days it's just Oatmeal as its quick and simple.

Lunch:

When it comes to lunch, I go for some Peanut Butter Toast, Sliced Apples and Sweet Potato Fries. I definitely don't eat all of these dishes at once but over a couple of hours. I start off with Meridian Smooth Peanut Butter which doesn't contain any sugar or oil spread over Gluten Free Bread. One of the easiest meals to make. I also love to make Sweet Potato Fries which taste heavenly. I normally follow the Deliciously Ella recipe. I finish lunch off with a juicy apple.

Dinner:

This is the meal that changes the most. I don't normally have a say in what I have for dinner as I eat dinner with the Family. However on this particular day, we had Chicken Wings, Potato Waffles and Baked Beans, I also had some salad on the side but totally forgot to take a photo. Sorry! I know this isn't the healthiest of dinners but you have to treat yourself once in a while right? I often have some strawberries after dinner but we ran out so I had some grapes instead.

Snacks:

I try not to snack during the day or between meals but rather have a larger lunch and eat it over a longer period of time. But when I can't wait for the next meal or if I am out and about, I have a Nakd Bar. These are my favourite bars and are so healthy. They only contain fruit, nuts and seeds and are cold pressed. Amazing! I favourites are the Orange Cocoa, Cashew Cookie and Bakewell Tart.

In terms of drinks, I only drink water and if I want something different, I'll add fruit or squash. That's what a typical meal plan of a day looks like. I know that not everyone eats the same things and often not every food is suitable for everyone but I thought it may be useful to some to see what I eat.

What do you eat in a day?

A Few New Purchases | Drugstore Haul

Over the last couple of months, a few new beauty products have joined my ever growing collection and I thought I would talk about them in this post. I recently took a trip to Superdrug to pick up some essentials and as per usual, some other products also caught my eye. I most certainly didn't buy these items all at once and I definitely didn't need all of these products but I couldn't help myself and I would love to hear what you thought of them.

Starting off with the beauty essentials I felt I needed, I picked up the Superdrug 100% Pure Cotton Wool Pads. Doesn't everyone need these?! These cotton pads are essential to me as I use them to remove my make up with my Micellar Cleansing Water. Another very important purchase for me was the Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes. I personally don't use make up wipes to actually remove the make up off my face but rather to remove lipstick, eyeshadow, eyeliner and blusher swatches from my hand and arm. I also find these useful for removing eyeliner or eyeshadow that hasn't gone the way I wanted it to. Moving on from wipes and on to hair bands. Where do all the hair bands go? I picked up another set of Superdrug Metal Free Hairbands. These hair bands are great as they don't rip my hair out.

From hair bands to skincare. I noticed the other day that I was running out of my favourite cleanser so I brought a back up for when the previous one runs out. My cleanser of choice is the Superdrug Vitamin E Hot Cloth Cleanser. I have talked about this cleanser non stop but it is one of the greatest cleansers from the drugstore and is well worth a try. I use this cleanser to clean my face after I have removed my make up. Another back up product that I picked up is the Simple Moisturising Facial Wash. I know that I have recently talked about this skincare item but it is one of my 'must have' products. A more random purchase would be the Superdrug Eyeshadow Brush. Some of my favourite eyeshadow brushes come from Superdrug as they are brilliant and cheap. If your in the market for a new or different eyeshadow brushes, I would strongly recommend trying this brush.

As a beauty blogger, I couldn't help but pick up some beauty products to try out as well. The first item is the Make Up Revolution Blush Palette in Sugar and Spice. I had previously brought one of these blush palettes a couple of months ago and use it almost everyday so I decided to invest in another one. These blush palettes contain six different blushers all of which are very pigmented and blend able. One lipstick brand I had never tried was the Topshop Lipsticks so back in May, I picked up a Topshop Lipstick in Brighton Rock. This is a wonderful and wearable shade for the summer time.

The last couple of purchases are both nail polishes which don't come as a shock really. I spotted that Barry M had brought out a new line of nail polishes called Sunset Gel which uses Daylight rather than a UV lamp to create a long lasting gel effect. I was very interested in this so I picked up the shade 'Peach For The Stars' along with the matching Sunset Topcoat to create the gel effect. So far I have been enjoying these polishes as they leave a great shiny finish.

What beauty products have you purchased recently?

The Everyday Beauty Products

For this post I thought I would talk about the everyday beauty products that always seen to get left out. I don't know why more people don't talk about them as they are always used and have stuck with us through thick and thin. I'm talking about shampoo, deodorants, body lotions and face washes. Hopefully this will make up for the times when I forgot to include them in my monthly favourites!

Kicking things off with a shampoo. I am very fussy when it comes to the shampoo that I use and this is down to the fact that most upset my scalp. However the Head & Shoulders Shampoo is perfect for me and has been my choice of shampoo for years now. This product helps me to battle with greasy and frizzy hair as well as removing dandruff. I also enjoy the fresh scent that it gives off and leaves my hair feeling clean and grease free.

While we are on the topic of showers, I want to talk about my favourite facial wash. I personally wash my face in the shower and I know that some people wash their face in the sink but it just saves me an extra step in the morning. My facial wash of choice is the Simple Moisturising Facial Wash. I have very sensitive skin and one of the only brands which doesn't break me out is Simple. I love using their Moisturising Facial Wash as it leaves my skin feeling smooth and soft.

Moving on form the shower and onto body lotions. For years, I never bothered with body lotions or moisturising for that fact, until one day when I noticed how dry my skin was. Since then I have always used a body lotion after showering. I normally swap around my body lotions as I find great joy in trying new ones but at the moment I am loving the Soap & Glory Butter Yourself Lotion. It is the smell that interested me at first as it smells fruity, fresh and sweet.

The final product I'm talking about is deodorant. I never leave the house without deodorant on or in my handbag. I feel that it is just as important as brushing your hair or teeth and I use the Impulse Body Spray in Rose Pink. I personally prefer to use a spray as I find it easier and quicker to use. The scent of this body spray is very sweet and girly and claims to be a mixture of grapefruit and vanilla which I would agree with. This body spray lasts for quite a while and leaves me smelling very fresh.

These are four products which I use every single day of the week. As soon as they run out, I head straight to Boots and can't go without them. So here's some well deserved love to the products that are often forgotten or go unnoticed.

What are your everyday beauty products?

Blog Photography | My Tips & Tricks

If I look back through my old posts and compare them to my newer posts, one massive difference would be my photography skills. When I first started blogging, I wasn't sure how to take photos and I am still no expert but I have learnt helpful tricks along the way. I feel that photography is a very important part of a blog because often photos can be more powerful than words and they are generally the thing that attracts me to a blog in the first place. Trust me I know that photography doesn't come naturally to everyone and without information or knowing how to work a camera, it can be overwhelming so I thought I would share my points and tricks.

Camera & Equipment
A lot of people have a false impression about needing a fancy camera with a matching fancy lens. This couldn't be further from the reality. You don't need to have a camera that cost hundreds of pounds. In fact I started off by using my mum's iphone as a camera and for a while it worked. From there I upgraded to the Canon IXUS 132 Digital Camera which cost around £70. This camera is small and compact and is perfect for taking photos of food in restaurants. However for the last couple of months I have been using the Pentax K-50 DSLR Camera which I am currently borrowing off my brother. In terms of equipment I only use a 18-55 mm lens which came with the camera but I would like to state that you don't need a big fancy camera with loads of buttons to be a successful blogger.

Stock Photos
Using stock photos can be seen as lazy by some people but not everyone agrees. I personally love taking my own photos as it makes the blog post more personal and allows you to be in full control of the quality. By taking your own photos you can see if they are actually using the product and what the packaging really looks like. Another thing to note if your thinking about  using stock photos is that they are small which means when you resize it, it often becomes fuzzy and pixlated. However saying this, stock photos popped together into a cute collage can create a great wish list. Of course if your talking about products which have yet to be released, then stock photos can't be avoided. Some people hate them, some people love them, the choice is yours.

Focus & Background
Two things that can make a world of difference to photos is Focus and Background. Being in focus is so important because out of focus photos is an instant turn off as it make me feel like I should be having my eyes checked because I can't see clearly. I adore photos that are in focus because it enables me to see the detail and makes it look crisp. If you have a 'Macro' option try it as it allows you to focus on products up close. When it comes to backgrounds, there are so many to pick from including bedspreads, desks, books, pillow cases, tablet and laptop cases as well as plates and dishes and items of clothes. If I am ever in doubt, I grab a piece of plain white paper and use it as a background.

Angles & Composition
When it comes to angles and composition of a photo, I really struggle. I love taking photos and experimenting with different angles but I often find it hard to be creative. However one way I ensure that I find the right angle is by taking hundreds of photos and then selecting the perfect few and deleting or storing the other ones. Don't forget to think about the amount of product you have in shot and how much of the background you have in frame as well. The focal point should be the product rather than the background. I always try to remember to be aware of the space around the product and focus on the product.

Lighting
People who don't take photos regularly may not understand the pain that us bloggers go through in terms of lighting. It isn't just a case of using a standard room lighting. Where possible I try to use natural light as it shows the true colours of the product while being clear and crisp. If your like me and live in the UK where the sun often hides away in the clouds then this can be an issue. That's where studio lightening can be useful. I personally don't use or own studio lighting as I have a couple of massive windows which I use. One tip if your taking photos by a window is not to take the photo into the light but rather away from the light. I feel lighting is all about trial and error really!

Editing
One thing that I get asked about is how I edit my photos. I never used to edit my photos as I didn't know how to and it looked like a waste of time. It is safe to say that my view has now changed. Almost all of the time, I use Picmonkey which is an online photo editing website. I don't do anything fancy other than cropping, resizing and changing the brightness. I also use this website to create collages and to put text over photos. Ipiccy is another great online editing website which I personally use to create collages for wishlists. They are so many different and wonderful editing websites and pieces of software so just see which one you prefer. Once you have found one which suits you and you are comfortable with, you can really start to get fancy with your editing skills!

I really hope that these tips and hints were helpful and please don't feel like you have to follow these tips as these are just my opinions and thoughts and they may not work for everyone. Don't forget to have fun with your photography and enjoy it.

What are your tips and tricks when it comes to blog photography?

Beauty Picks For Summer

I never seem to know when summer truly starts but recently the weather has been gorgeous and since I have finished university for the year, I have been thinking about some of the beauty choices which I make for the warmer weather. Since it is the beginning of June I felt it was the perfect time to share with you some of the beauty products that I'll be reaching for which include mosturisers, lip products and blushers and the occasional nail polish or two.

Kicking off with skincare, I always find myself reverting to Simple. As a person who has sensitive skin, I have found that Simple is a brand that suits my skin well. The Simple Protecting Moisture Cream is a summer pick mainly because it contains SPF 30 while still maintaining a light texture and not creating too much shine. During the warmer months, I prefer a lighter base while still providing a bit of coverage to cover those spots. The Maybelline Dream Pure BB Cream is the ideal product as it is light but also burrs spots. Not to mention that it leaves you shine free if you get the oily skin version.

Moving onto make up, I don't normally use a different type of bronzer but the same can't be said for blushers. My ideal summer blusher is the Natural Collection Blush 'Peach Melba' which as the name may suggest has a peach tone to it. I find that this blusher compliments a tan and gets used a lot during the months of June through to August. The texture of the blusher feels light and doesn't over power the face but rather adds a healthy glow.

In terms of lips, I often reach for products which are bright and moisturising as well as long lasting. As the temperatures increase, the bold red lipsticks go away and the bright pinks come out. The Revlon Colourburst Lacquer Balm 'Vivacious'  is a summer favourite and is a fun bright colour which is fantastic for summer. This lacquer balm is very moisturising and leaves your lips with a stain which results in long lasting colour. The Topshop Lipstick 'Brighton Rocks' is another must have and is a more subtle yet beautiful pink colour. Although this product is slightly drying, it is rather long lasting and adds a pop of colour as well.

Lastly but definitely not least come nail polishes. For summer, I often turn to pink and peachy shades as well as mint green. I do love a good mint green nail polish. Essie's Peach Daiquiri is the pure combination of pink and peach which creates this light  pink shade and is splendid. The longevity of this nail polish is unreal which is ideal when it comes summer purely because of the amount of swimming, paddle boarding and other activities I get up to. Another peach shade I adore is Barry M's Peach For The Stars.  As stated earlier, I have also been known to rock mint green during a summer holiday as well. My personal favourite is Barry M's Greenberry which can only be described as a bright mint green colour and is very eye catching. I would recommend wearing this shade in the height of summer!

What are your summer beauty picks?

Five Budget Blushers To Try

One product that I never go without happens to be blusher. I always wear blusher as it adds colour and brightness to my face. When I first started wearing make up, it was one of the first products I tried and still to this day I love blushers. Because of this, I have built up a fair collection of them and I thought  I would share five blushers which you should try out...

Make Up Revolution Powder Blusher 'Sugar'
One of the first blushers that I tried was the Make Up Revolution Powder Blush in Sugar and I still use it regularly. I didn't know anything about brands or what products to try so I decided that this one was a good place to start. The pigmentation of this blusher is amazing and gives a rosy glow. This blusher blends perfectly into my cheeks and doesn't move either! Yes the packaging isn't great but at £1 I can't really complain.

Milani Baked Blusher 'Luminoso'
The Baked Blush from Milani in Luminoso is my most recent addition to the collection and is my first baked blush. I wasn't sure if a baked blush would suit me but I have been using this blusher non stop for the past couple of months. The peachy tone is ideal for spring and summer and contains some shimmer which highlights as well. This blush is soft while being intensely pigmented but still blends well. If your in the UK, fear not as you can purchase this blusher on Amazon for  £4.49. Bargain!

Topshop Powder Blusher 'Good Girl'
If your a fan of a bright Barbie pink blush then this is the product for you. When I first saw the blush I didn't think I would ever have the confidence to wear it but after I swatched it, I noticed the softness of the blush. Normally I would complain if I blusher didn't have enough pigmentation but this one has just the right amount. It can be built up and doesn't allow you to go over board and look like a clown. The packaging is very cute but is a more expensive blush at £7 but is well worth a try!

MUA Cream Blusher 'Dolly'
I have always been a powder blush kind of girl. There was always something scary sounding about a cream blush but one day I picked up the MUA Cream Blusher in Dolly. I thought if I was going to try a cream blush it might as well be a cheap one and at £1 I couldn't have gone cheaper. This cream blusher has an amazing peach tone to it which I adore and blends seamlessly into the cheeks to create a natural healthy glow. I love using this on lazy days, as it gives a pop of colour and is easy as pie to apply.

Sleek Powder Blushher 'Rose Gold'
Sleek is a brand that I always head towards when I am in search of a blusher as they always seem to produce amazing powder products. One of my personal favourites from them is the Rose Gold Blusher. The name drew me to it but when I swatched it, I was blown away! I couldn't believe the pigmentation. This has to be one of the most intensely pigmented blushes in the drugstore. Saying this, it also blends into the skin to product a lovely pop of colour. Not to mention the packaging that is perfect for travelling with.

What are your favourite Blushers?

My Healthy Food Shopping List

When I was younger I always loved going food shopping with my mum. I always remember running off around the shop grabbing whatever food I wanted and then being told to put it back again. However when I first moved out, I found food shopping such a chore and didn't enjoy it because I got overwhelmed by everything and always forgot something or other. That's when the shopping list occurred. Sounds like an obvious thing to do but it makes life so easy and I'm sharing my healthy food shopping list...

What's on your shopping list?
