August Favourites // 2015

Can you believe that August is coming to an end? I can't because it means that summer is finally over and the idea of heading back to university is beginning to appear again. I have had a wonderful month of going on family holidays and enjoying the couple days of sun. For the first time in a while, all of this month's favourites are products that were recently purchased. These favourites include a palette, bronzer, blusher, nail polish and lipstick.

Back in July, I picked up the Urban Decay Naked Basics 2 palette during a sale on and it is fast becoming one of my all time favourites. The shades of this palette do seem fairly standard and simple but they give the eye lids some definition and is ideal for everyday wear. My most used shade would have to be 'Cover' which is a light brown taupe colour and blends into the lid perfectly. I also love the packaging and size of this palette because it is so slim and tiny which is great for travelling.

One bronzer that I have used everyday this month is The Body Shop Honey Bronzer in '03'. I have heard so many people talking about this bronzer and had to try it for myself. I couldn't get a lighter shade because they didn't have any in stock but it turns out that this shade suits me well. The honey bronzer isn't overly pigmented and ideal for paler skinned girls like myself and the packaging is gorgeous. The blusher of the month is the Rimmel Stay Blushed Liquid Cheek Tint in 'Pop Of Pink'. This liquid blush is the perfect summer blush as it is so easy to apply and blend and gives off a natural flush.

There has been one nail polish that I have adored this month and it comes from Tanya Burr. I had never brought anything from the Tanya Burr Collection but I picked this up on sale and haven't stopped using it since. The Tanya Burr Nail Polish in 'Little Duck' which is a light mint green colour has a thick formula and is long lasting. I have only worn one lip product this month and that is a Mac Lipstick in 'Impassioned' which is one of the brightest pink shades I own. I didn't know if I was going to get much use out of it but it turns out, it is one of my most used lipsticks.

In terms of skincare, I haven't really been using any new or different products apart from the Soap and Glory The Breakfast Scrub. I received this scrub back in Decemeber for Christmas but never got around to using it. However this month, I finally decided to use it and its amazing. This product is thick and really scrubs the skin and makes it feel smooth. However the smell is my favourite part because it smells like maple syrup and pancakes.

Teen Make Up Basics

I remember when I first started wearing make up, I didn't have much money to spend and had no idea what products I really needed. However with time and research, I finally figured out what make up I needed and what products are the best. I have a younger sister who is beginning to try make up and that got me thinking about a make up starter kit for teenagers who may not have loads of money to splash out on high end products.

I didn't really feel the need to cover my face in foundation as I didn't need the coverage and the same goes with my sister. However I know that not everyone is the same and on special occasions, I prefer a bit more coverage as well. When this happens, I turn to the Maybelline Dream Pure BB Cream which gives a light matte coverage which is perfect for teenagers and contains salicylic acid to combat those pesky little spots. As an oily skinned girl, I always apply a bit of powder to keep the shine away. The Seventeen Miracle Matte Pressed Powder is the best oil control powder I have ever used and keeps the shine away for the whole day without re powdering.

Blusher & Bronzers
One product that I struggled to find for a reasonable price is bronzer. Most great bronzers from Boots and Superdrug are not that cheap but one bronzer that is great for the price is the Rimmel Sun Shimmer Bronzing Compact Powder. This bronzer is amazing as it comes in both shimmer and matte as well as different shades and isn't overly pigmented and suits pale girls really well. A blusher that is great quality for the money is the Natural Collection Blusher in 'Peach Melba'. Although the packaging looks and feels fairly cheap but the actual product is so pigmented and gives a natural flushed look.

Everyone has one make up product that they are obsessed with and mine is eyeshadows. Buying an eyeshadow palette is the best way to get the most for your money and one that is amazing from the drugstore is the Collection Eyes Uncovered Nude Bronze Palette. This palette contains six bronze shades all of which are buttery and blend into the eye lids perfectly. I would highly recommend checking out with this palette. However if your looking for better quality eyeshadows, single eyeshadows are the way to go. The MUA Single Eyeshadows in 'Copper' and 'Peony' are some of the best from Superdrug and the pigmentation is unbelievable.

I am not going to lie when I say that I was hopeless at applying eyeliner and therefore I didn't bother to wear liners. However a couple of months ago I just decided to try again and fell in love. I personally think that black liquid liner may be a bit too heavy for school and teenagers so I am going to recommend a pencil. There is one brand that does eye liners like no one else and that is Rimmel. I love wearing the Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal Eye Liner Pencil in 'Sable Brown'. This liner stays in place all day and is super soft and doesn't drag along the lashline either.

Lip Products
When I was a teenager, I didn't really wear lipsticks but rather a lip butter or balm to moisturise  my lips. However if your looking for something with a pop or hint of colour there are some great sheer products which are ideal for school. I love wearing the MUA Intense Kisses High Intensity Gloss in 'Lips Are Sealed'. This lip gloss gives a sheer wash of natural pink colour that makes your lips look glossy and natural. I love to wear this product when I am having a no make up kind of day and doesn't dry my lips out.

Five Affordable Skincare Picks

I always find good skincare products hard to come by and even more so from the shelves of Boots and Superdrug. Because I am a student, I can't afford to spend money on more expensive products. However over the years, I have found a couple of skincare gems that are affordable and work as well as high end skincare items. I have a number of different products which include cleansers, moisturisers and a mask from a range of different brands.

My all time favourite affordable skincare product is the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water. I use this micellar water as the first step in my skincare routine and helps to remove the main bulk of my make up. I personally use this cleansing water because it is gentle and is brilliant at removing all my eye make up including the waterproof mascara and eyeliner. My other affordable cleanser is the Superdrug Vitamin E Hot Cloth Cleanser which is a basic cleanser. I use this hot cloth cleanser after removing my make up to fully cleanse my skin and is thick and creamy. This has to be one of the best cleansers for your money.

When it comes to moisturisers, there is only one brand that I turn to and that's simple. The Simple Replenishing Rich Moisturiser is one of the most affordable products on the high street. I first tried this product a couple of years ago and haven't stopped using it since. This moisturiser is one of the most hydrating products I have ever used and leaves my skin feeling smooth and soft. Another moisturising product that is very cheap is the Superdrug Vitamin E Leave On Mask  which is a hydrating mask that you can leave on to soak into your skin and is perfect for dehydrated skin. My last affordable pick is the Superdrug Simple Pure Cleansing Face Mask which is a mask that gives your skin a deep cleanse and makes your skin look healthier and brighter.

What are your affordable skincare picks?

Luxury Accessories & Beauty Wishlist

As my payday is fast approaching, I have a wishlist as long as my arm. Recently, I have found myself spending evenings researching different make up products that have caught my eye as well as different handbags and purses. However I can't buy everything that I set my eyes on which means they are popped onto my wishlist and I thought I would share with you the items I have been lusting over.

One handbag that I have been looking at for a while now is from Michael Kors. I have been thinking about investing in a luxury handbag and the Michael Kors Jet Set Travel Medium Saffiano Leather Tote  has caught my attention as I adore the style and colour. I feel that this handbag is a classic piece and would go with so many different outfits. Another item from Michael Kors that I have been eyeing up is a watch. Every blogger and youtuber seems to own a watch from them and I am in need of one. The Michael Kors MK5774 Parker Rose White Ladies Watch is the one that has my heart at the moment as it look stunning. I have always loved rose gold watches but I love the idea of the rose gold on the outside with white on the inside of the strap.
As well as handbags, I have been looking at a new make up bag because I clearly don't have enough! One brand that I have been thinking about is Ted Baker as they have some very cute make up bags. The Ted Baker Rochel Extra Large Bow Trim Wash Bag is the one that made it onto my wishlist as I find the bow the perfect addition and gives it a girly touch. I also find the colour of the make up bag very different and unique. My last accessory that I am wishing for is a pair of sunglasses even though it is currently raining like crazy. The Quay Australia Bailey Sunglasses are a pair that will definitely be on my birthday and Christmas wishlist because they look amazing and I am in love with the cat eye look.

In terms of make up, there is three products that have made it on the list. The Two Faced Natural Eyes Palette  is a palette that I have been thinking about purchasing for months and months but can't bring myself to buy it as I have a whole draw full of palettes which don't all get used. However this palette looks perfect for me and may be put onto my Christmas wishlist. One bronzer that I have been lusting over is the Estee Lauder Bronze Goddness Bronzing Powder which is massive and looks amazing. I haven't tried any high end bronzesr before so I am very interested to see the difference. The last item on my wishlist is a Mac Lipstick. I recently brought a Amplified Creame Lipstick and fell in love with the formula and I am thinking about the shade 'Chatterbox' which looks like a great pink shade.

What items have been on your wishlist recently?

Current Drugstore Favourites

As a make up lover myself, there is nothing I enjoy more than finding hidden gems in the aisles of Boots and Superdrug. Because of this, I would say that over half of my make up collection comes from the drugstore and with good reason. There are some amazing products for great prices and I thought I would share my current drugstore favourites which range from eyeshadows to nail polishes.

The first current favourite is a blusher from Milani. This isn't technically a product from Boots or Superdrug but has a price tag of a drugstore product so I'm hoping it counts. The Milani Baked Blush in 'Luminoso' is my 'go to' blusher at the moment which is a peach coral colour. This blusher is so pigmented which means that all you need is one swipe across the cheeks. I have also been enjoying the Rimmel Glam Eyes Quad in 'Sun Safari' which contains four bronze and gold shades. This Rimmel Quad is perfect for everyday wear and can create a natural bronze look with depth.

Over the last couple of weeks, I have gone for a more natural make up look which meant I swapped my black liquid liner for a brown pencil liner. Therefore I have been using the Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal Eye Liner Pencil in 'Sable Brown' to line my lashline. I find that this liner gives me a more natural look and I often prefer to smudge the liner out. The lip product I have been reaching for is the Make Up Academy Intense Kisses Lipgloss in 'Lips Are Sealed'. I find that this gloss isn't sticky while still being long lasting and giving a everyday lip look. The last product is also from Rimmel and is a nail polish. I am a massive fan of drugstore nail polishes and my current favourite is the Rimmel Lasting Finish in 'Loafer Love For You' which is a dark navy blue colour.

What are your current drugstore favourites?

Mac Impassioned Lipstick | Review

I have always loved the idea of Mac Lipsticks and bright colours but I could never bring myself to spend the money on a lipstick that I may not ever wear. However when I was looking on Fragrance Direct I saw that they were selling discounted Mac Lipsticks and I couldn't help but pick up a new one. I spend a couple of hours looking at different swatches and ended up buying Mac's  'Impassioned' in an Amplified Cream Finish.

The lipstick comes in the Black Sleek Mac packaging which I personally love and adore not to mention the smell that a new Mac lipstick has to it. I don't really know what made me decide to pick 'Impassioned' over other shades but I couldn't help but be intrigued by the brightness of the shade and also saw many great reviews about this lipstick. I have also never tried an Amplified finish before so I was very interested in it.

Mac's Amplified is a bright pink shade with coral undertones to it. I wasn't sure if I was ever going to  wear it but I was wrong. It is quickly becoming one of my everyday essentials. I would describe this shade as an almost neon pink colour which is stunning. I will admit that this is a pretty bold choice but I have made it my mission to step outside my comfort zones when it comes to lipsticks. The formula of the lipstick is creamy and hydrating while being long lasting. Although it may be bright, I feel that this shade would compliment any skin tone.

Having never tried an Amplified Cream Finish lipstick before I wasn't sure what to expect in terms of the formula but I was pleasantly surprised. With just one swipe, bold full colour is applied to the lips which creates a bright bold look. My favourite part about this lipstick is the fact that it is creamy and buttery and doesn't dry out my lips like any products I have previously used. This is definitely not a sheer product but rather completely opaque and only requires one application.

The lasting power of this lipstick is unbelievable and doesn't need to be reapplied during the day even when you eat your lunch and dinner. I also found that the lipstick didn't transfer onto my cup when drinking my coffee which is always a bonus. I would even compare the long lasting power to a lip stain and is such a fun and bright colour which is perfect for everyone.

Have you tried this Mac lipstick before? What did you think?

Eye Shadow Brushes On a Budget

One of my favourite make up products is eyeshadow. I own many different eyeshadows from singles to palettes all of which come with rubbish foam applicators that do anything but apply eyeshadow. For years, I just used my fingers and excepted the fact that my eyeshadow wasn't fully blended or shaded equally. However since I have become more interested in make up, I have brought a couple of budget friendly eyeshadows which are fantastic.

The first proper eyeshadow brush I ever brought was from Superdrug and was their Blending Brush. I didn't really know what to expect from this brush but it is great for applying eyeshadow to the lid and can be used to blend it out as well. I loved it so much that I went back and brought more. At the moment I own five of them but I wouldn't be surprised if I brought more in the future. At only £1.99, there isn't a more budget friendly eyeshadow brush around.

When you think of budget brushes, Real Techniques is a brand that always comes to mind. Their brushes are truly amazing but one of my favourites is the shading brush. I own the mini version from their trio brush set but it is one of my most used eyeshadow brushes. There is something about it that applies and blends the eyeshadow so well. At some point I will end up buying the full size of the brush but this one is perfect for people on a budget. The Trio of brushes altogether cost £7.99 and is ideal for girls just starting out in make up.

One brand that is famous for their make up brushes is Zoeva. Almost every blogger and youtuber has talked about these brushes and I couldn't help but try one myself. In the end I decided to pick this luxe smoky shader brush and it is amazing. This brush is perfect for applying eyeshadow as well as spreading and distributing the product across the lid evenly. I have to mention the gorgeous packaging that this brush has. This brush has a price tag of £6.95 and is worth a try.

My most recent addition to my eyeshadow brush collection is from Ecotools. I was always interested in these brushes as they are made with bamboo and recycled materials and they look very different from any other brushes I have ever seen or owned. These two brushes are double ended and contain four different types of brush at each end. One tool has a shading and defining brush which is useful for applying eyeshadow to the waterline. The other one contains a blending and smudging brush which is perfect for smudging eye liner and this set only cost £6.99. Bargain!

What are your favourite eyeshadow brushes?

My Organisational Must Haves

I am a big organiser in general and this includes blogging, university work, from my wardrobe to my make up collection. There is something about everything  being organised that really makes me happy and puts a smile on my face. Because of this, I have come up with a couple of essentials that are needed for my organisation. These must haves are vital for blogging and university essays and exams so here are my favourites.

If there is one thing I am never far away from it is my planner. I remember using a planner back when I was in primary school and was something that I didn't really bother with but now I don't know what I would do without it. I write down everything that I need to do such as blog posts, work hours, university deadlines and dates with friends. I always get my planners from WH Smith as they have a great selection. This planner keeps me in check and basically has my life in it.

Along with my planner is a calendar. You may think that this is odd to have both a planner and calendar but I feel the need to have both. I personally use the calendar on my iphone as I always have it with me. I find that having a calendar is a great way to have an overview of the upcoming events. I normally write down the event in the calendar and then add more detail in my planner. I often write down doctor and eye appointments as well as holidays.

Notebooks have to be my secret addiction and I own way too many. I have so many notebooks that are currently lying around the room. I use them for a number of different things but my main one is used to write down any blog ideas I have. I try my best to keep this in my handbag so that if I have an idea for a post at a random moment during the day, I can write it down. Every once in a while I have a brainstorm session for ideas and I write them down in a notebook. I also have several notebooks for different subjects at university.

Organisational Apps
I'm sad to admit that my phone is glued to my hands during most hours of the day and because of this, I have a couple of apps to help me stay organised. My favourite and most used app is the classic 'Reminders' which is great for writing down things to do later. I also have apps for keeping my blog organised such as 'Blogger', 'Bloglovin' and 'Twitter' and 'Instagram'. I also love to use 'Notes' to write down food to pick up as well as 'Voice Memos' to record any ideas or notes.

What are your organisational must haves?

What's In My Handbag? // 2015 Edition

I am a massive fan of 'what's in my handbag?' posts and I felt it was time to update mine. The bag I am currently using is from Primark and is one of my favourite bags to use and it may look small but it fits a fair amount in there. I love the baby pink colour and is ideal for a summer getaway.

What is in your bag?

Nail Polishes That Are Long Lasting

I always have my nails painted and own bottles upon bottles of the stuff but there are a select few which are long lasting. I don't know about you but one of the most important things in a nail polish has to be the longevity of it as I am always on the go and forever chipping my nails. Because of this, I have come up with a range of different nail polishes that actually last for a whole week without a sign of chipping.

Barry M Jelly Hi Shine
I have written about Barry M nail polishes before as they are my personal favourite and I love the Barry M Jelly Hi Shine range. The formula of this range is unbelievable and is thick and glides onto my nails without going on over my fingers. These nail polishes last for around a week before I find chips but this does depend on the amount of layers you have applied. This is the perfect drugstore nail polish which stays on your nails for a week before you may need to touch them up and there are many shades to pick from.

Essie Nail Polish
Sometimes you need to spend a little bit more to get better quality nail polishes that last and Essie is one of those brands. I find that Essie Nail Polishes are some of the best polishes around and are worth the higher price tag. I personally find that these nail polishes last for around one week at least before the chips may begin to show but they are generally small and hardly noticeable. I normally apply two coats of nail polish which gives a shiny finish and helps the longevity.

Maybelline Forever Strong
One brand that I don't hear as much about when it comes to nail polishes is Maybelline. I have recently discovered their Forever Strong Nail Polish range and is quickly becoming one of my favourites. I have to mention the brush of these nail polishes which is the perfect size for my nails and that is hard to find these days. The actual formula of them is long lasting as it is thick and strong which creates a shiny finish and is perfect for people who are always chipping their nails.
OPI Nail Lacquer
Another high end brand that is very well known for their nail polishes is OPI and with good reason. When I first tried OPI nail polishes years ago, I became obsessed with the quality and only ever worn OPI. This was mainly because I did a lot of swimming and these nail polishes always stayed on my nails. Fast forward years later and I am still obsessed with these polishes because they can last up to two weeks without needing to be repainted.

What are your favourite nail polishes that are long lasting?

How To Get Over The Holiday Blues

There is nothing worse than coming back from a holiday and crashing back down to reality. I'm currently experiencing a bad case of the holiday blues as I had to head back to work the day after coming back and it was hard to say the least. I didn't think I was going to miss the holiday that much but the whole daily life thing is really taking its toll on me so I have come up with some ideas to beat those holiday blues and to get back into the everyday life.

Allow Yourself To Rest - Throwing yourself back into work straight after coming back from a holiday can make the blues worse. I know that resting after a holiday may sound silly as holidays are for relaxing right? but everyone needs a couple of days to sit back and rest which for me includes watching as much tv as possible and catching up on blogs. Just give yourself time to unwind before tackling work.

Have a Pamper Session - Along with rest comes a pamper session. One of my favourite things to do after a holiday is a pamper session because I don't normally bring my pamper essentials on holiday with me. This often includes face masks, hair masks, body scrubs, facial scrubs, luxurious shower gels and foot cream. Nothing makes me feel better than treating myself and feeling clean and fresh as well as smooth and soft.

Look Over & Edit Holiday Photos - I find it fun and interesting to go through all the holiday photos as this allows me to relive the holiday in some way and have a laugh along the way. Editing the photos is a great way to create memories and having photos is a wonderful way to remind you of the holiday you have had and I love spending time going through the photos a couple of months later. I even frame and hang up some of the photos around my room.

Reflect On The Holiday - After a holiday, I always meet up with friends for coffee or lunch to talk about our travels and adventures and what we got up to. Reflecting and talking about the holiday is a great way to come to terms about the end of the holiday and to share the great memories that you have collected and made. Having these memories allows you to forever relive and remember the holiday.

Have Something To Look Forward To - Once I have come back from a holiday, I start planning and looking at new and different places to go next. I love the idea of having a new holiday to look forward to and always cheers me up and I often take months to research places to stay and visit. If you can't afford to go away straight away then why not create a travel board on pinterest and look at places for the future.

Do you ever suffer from the holiday blues? How do you deal with it?

UK Drugstore Make Up Recommendations

When it comes to Boots and Superdrug, there are so many different products and brands to try and look at. When I stepped into Boots for the first time ever, I was shocked at the choice of make up there was and didn't know where to begin. Because of this, I decided to come up with a couple of products to pick up when your in the UK.

First up is something that isn't actually from the drugstore but costs around the same price so I'm going to include it. The Topshop Powder Blush in 'Good Girl' is the first product and is a light pink shade with a hint of shimmer. I didn't know if I was going to enjoy this blush or not but it gives a great natural flushed look and is perfect for a natural make up look. I also have to mention the cute packaging that the Topshop make up comes in.

One thing I love about Boots is that they sell Soap & Glory Make Up Products and one of my favourite products from them is the Soap & Glory Solar Powder Bronzing Powder. When I first brought this Bronzer I used it non stop because it gives a sun kissed bronzed look. I personally love to swirl both shades together to create a natural bronzer shade but if you want a slightly dark contour colour than you can use the dark shade but if you want a lighter shade, than you can apply the lighter shimmer shade.

A brand that can only be found in Superdrug is Make Up Academy which is a brand specialising in affordable make up but has some amazing products. The Make Up Academy Single Eyeshadow in 'Copper' is one of my favourite products from this brand. I couldn't believe how pigmented this eyeshadow was and blends into the lid and crease perfectly. At only £1, I can't recommend this eyeshadow more.

In terms of lip products there is one product that I always turn to. The Collection Cream Puff in 'Fairy Cakes' is a lip cream which dries to a matte finish and is one of the most long lasting products ever. This product glides onto the lips to give a full coverage look and smells like vanilla ice cream and feels smooth and soft on the lips. I will say that this product is slightly drying but is nothing that a lip butter won't fix.

The last product is nail polishes. There is so many great nail polishes from Boots and Superdrug such as Essie but one brand that I always turn back to is Barry M. I own so many of their nail polishes but my favourite is the Barry M Jelly Hi Shine Nail Polish Range. I have so many shades which include Guava, Blue Grape, Rose Hip, Sugar Apple, Kiwi, Sky Blue, Pomegranate, Green Berry and Papaya.

What are your UK drugstore make up recommendations?
